BUT .... IF and I say IF he did in fact make the speech on whites being the only racists I'm proud of him! Those things have been in the closet way too lng now. A black woman can get up at a town council meeting and scream 'shut up white boy' and that's NOT racist, nothing is ever done about it. She can get on nation TV and brag of livng on welfare since she was six months old and raising her family on welfare also. AND bitch up a storm about how the whites have made her live in slums. 56 years old never had a job, sitting in an extremely nice apartment with wide screen TV and bitch because the TV they provided her is TOO SMALL!!!! Bitch because she feels the whites have made her live in poverty. The whites have worked and paid in taxes to help those living on welfare and in housing projects. MANY of the whites DO NOT have the luxuries she has enjoyed bitching about on nation TV. Racist remarks out of the mouths of every race need to stop. Don't brow beat the whites because they have worked hard and are successful. Don't brow beat anyone for anything. Be a good samaritan, give from the heart to everyone. Look and you will find good to say about everyone. We all need to hear good things said to us and about us to become more productive, better people. There is good in every race. But I think the success of the show was because it did step over that usually never crossed line. I'll admit I did not want to see the show and had no motivation to see it, but now that I have I think people should watch it merely for the statement it makes on movies today. I'm sure you believe what you're saying (at least I hope you do), and I'm also sure you mean well (again, at least I hope you do), but if you grow up being told by every overt and not-so-overt mass message form that you can't be right or happy or something unless you're perfect, at some point that will penetrate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not perfect and I know it, and I'm okay with that -- consciously. But my subconscious doesn't always fall into line as easily. I'm generally a self-confident and happy woman, but sometimes there are subconscious demons that raise their ugly heads in the dead of night. Unfortunately, no matter how many times my parents told me it didn't matter or it was unrealistic or just plain unobtainable/unattainable, it never resonated as clearly as the opinions of my peers and the media at large. As stated by Jhally, we no longer have a culture outside our advertising, and if it's so important, then obviously a part of us is going to realise that and treat the information from that source as such. Maybe I'm just a cynic (no, actually, I really am), but I don't think the majority of the male of the species really think the way you do...maybe I just don't give you guys enough credit. But that happens with a lot of segments of society with me. Oops, too cynical. After so much ad-bombardment. Imagine that.
